HomepageIn business since 1997, Smoke Rise is a private club located in Stone Mountain, 14 miles from downtown Atlanta. Home of the largest organized league tennis in the world. Smoke Rise has over 375 members. Club amenities include 18-hole championship golf course and practice facility, 4 clay tennis courts, 4 hard courts, 4 blended-line pickleball courts, junior Olympic pool, a 55,000 square foot clubhouse, including two restaurants, banquet facilities, professional shop, locker rooms, a full-service fitness facility, and other recreational facilities. The club is managed by Bobby Jones Links and all associates are employees of BJL. Smoke Rise recently launched a 2.0 plan that includes over $1.5 million in capital rejuvenation impacting the clubhouse, golf, pool, tennis and fitness. Position Overview At Smoke Rise, the Director of Racquets reports directly to the General Manager and liaises with the Racquets Board Member and Committee Chair. The Director will lead and manage his/her department to ensure a superb racquets experience and an attractive, well-maintained facility. She/he is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the racquet facilities, The Director is expected to lead the professional staff and supporting team, as well as provide information, recommendations, and leadership to the Racquets Committee. Ongoing, well-articulated and candid discourse is expected and required with the GM and the Racquets Committee. The Director is expected to routinely play/teach tennis and pickleball and regularly collaborate with the maintenance staff to assess court conditions in order to help ensure that they are consistently excellent. Continuing education and staying at the forefront of research and technology are necessary for success. The Director will provide creative leadership and foster a culture of continuing education and development of future racquet and fitness professionals. She/He must consistently demonstrate sincere and engaged visibility with members and staff, a genuine love of sport and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Essential Functions and Expectations The initial Focus for the new Director shall include: • Evaluate all aspects of the Racquets facilities and experience and create an enhancement plan for review with GM and Committee. • Evaluate direct reports and support staff and create a development plan • Assess effectiveness of merchandising program and make recommendations • Work closely with project team on the completion roofing structure near tennis viewing area • Review and refine (or develop) standard operating procedures • Review and refine the court maintenance and facility beautification program • Work closely with GM to review budget development progress for next fiscal year • Understand, uphold, and abide by all policies and procedures laid out in the Carpe Diem and Associate Handbook provided by Bobby Jones Links. • Learn and execute duties by the 17 service standards outlined by Bobby Jones Links. Qualifications: Personal Traits / Experience / Certification / Education The ideal candidate will be a Director of Athletics or Head Racquets with a minimum of five years’ progressive experience at a club(s) known for a high-level membership experience. Additionally, Smoke Rise’s new Director will be: • An individual with unimpeachable character and a high “Club IQ”. • A confident, resourceful, high-energy leader. • A student of racquet sports and fitness, with a proven ability to produce an exceptional experience for participants of all levels. • A program builder with demonstrated success in growing the reach and impact of Athletics. • Excited about being part of, and contributing broadly to, a synergistic leadership team. • Passionate about driving value and member /employee satisfaction. • Experienced in consistently providing outstanding member service. • A strong relationship builder with a history of collaboration with their Committee Chair, General Manager, and other Department Directors. • A manager with a keen eye for talent and the proven ability to develop support staff. • An individual with strong financial acumen, experienced in budget development, management, and forecasting. • An exemplary steward of resources. • A professional who takes ownership in his/her area of responsibility, while demonstrating a strong team orientation and actionable care for the success of other departments. • A collaborator with successful experience in cross-department programming. • An active listener with excellent verbal and written communication skills. • A well organized, detail-focused observer. • Acutely aware of the delicate balance that exists in creating an inclusive program at an exclusive facility. Qualifications: Certification / Education • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Physical Education, Sports & Recreation Management, or other related fields is preferred (Candidates who do not meet this criterion but have demonstrable success and extensive, specific experience in a similar private club environment will be considered) • USPTA Master Professional, or Elite Professional status, or PTR Equivalent. • Membership in, or certification from, the National Association of Club Athletic Directors and/or Club Management Association of America is considered as a plus, but not • Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the ideal candidate should be at an appropriate point in his/her professional trajectory – accomplished, yet well positioned to learn and grow and reach the pinnacle of his/her career while employed in this role. Compensation Details A competitive base salary and bonus, plus compensation from limited teaching is offered, as well as a comprehensive standard benefits package and perks are offered, in addition to continuing education and dues allowance. Reimbursement of relocation expenses is negotiable.
