About this Position
The Tennis Manager is responsible for supervising and managing the MVP Sports Clubs Tennis & Pickleball Program by providing world class facilities, programs and instruction on the court and customer service both on and off the court. This position is a part of the Tennis Department, reporting to the Athletic Club Director.
Responsibilities
Know, understand and exemplify the MVP Sports Clubs Values and Service Standards.
Ensures that all Team Members (in and out of their department) know, understand and exemplify the MVP Sports Clubs Values and Service Standards.
Perform all team member appraisals in a timely and efficient manner.
Maintain a quality team of tennis & pickleball professionals by interviewing, hiring, training/orienting, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining as needed; maintains proper payroll records, timekeeping, and employee paperwork.
Monitor expiration dates of staff certifications; develops and instructs staff on programs offered by club.
Determine and lay out schedule of MVP programs with emphasis on member programming and member retention, and communicate this with building Director and Corporate.
Manage scheduling and facilitating events.
Oversee all aspects of the junior and adult tennis programs including analyzing consumer trends, evaluating existing programs and schedules, and communicating program offerings to customers through the website and program flyers.
Continue to grow the pickleball segment by offering innovative programming and events.
Organize and execute USTA or in-house tennis and pickleball tournaments.
Assist with customer program enrollments by helping participants sign up in house or online. With the help of program instructors, assign program enrollees to the correct classes based on abilities. Follow up with as many customers as possible after program meetings and suggest next steps.
Monitor program progress by quality control procedures, surveying participants, staff for suggestions, etc.
Talk to at least 10 program participants per month about feedback concerning program.
Interact with members inside and outside your department encouraging them to try what your department has to offer.
Identify current and future programming tennis requirements, trends, and revenue generating potential by establishing rapport with members and staff, management, vendors and reporting back to building Director and Corporate with observations/suggestions.
Work with local schools, organizations, tennis teams to establish relationships within the surrounding tennis community.
Provide social opportunities within building’s tennis community through programming and gatherings.
Group and private lesson instruction on court must not exceed 25 hours per week.
Performs Operations shift as assigned by Director.
Carry out existing operational procedures for member service desk and tennis professionals including but not limited to scheduling, programming, and tennis lesson contracts.
Effectively communicate with Member Services team regarding changes or adjustments related to the tennis courts or tennis programming.
Effectively communicate and build rapport with members & guest and within the tennis community by responding to emails and voicemails within 24 hours.
Oversee all aspects of the racquet services adhering to a 48 hour turnaround commitment.
Audit court schedule and program rosters to ensure things are being paid for when they should be.
Report all critical numbers to the building Director.
Grow the tennis program and achieve monthly net revenue goals as established by the annual Tennis budget.
Adhere to all policies set forth by MVP Sports Clubs including but not limited to departmental SOPs.
Lead regular Service Game training sessions as directed by supervisor.
Maintain a neat and professional personal appearance, by wearing the MVP Sports Clubs uniform (see uniform matrix) and name badge.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
USPTA or USPTR certification as an Elite Professional or Master Professional.
Bachelor’s degree in sports management or related field preferred.
Involvement with USTA and local/state tennis organizations.
CPR and first aid certification in infants, children and adults
Minimum of four (4) years teaching experience
Previous tennis management experience preferred.
Computer knowledge required

Ability to manage multiple tasks
Must be able to work extra hours, weekends, and holidays if needed
Ability to play and teach tennis requiring standing, running, directional movements, swinging of racquet and holding of multiple tennis balls for at least 8 hours straight per day.
Physical Requirements: Bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit and turn/pivot; Lift/lower, push, pull and carry up to 40 lbs; perform office tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation and reach associated with assigned tasks such as paperwork, typing, and/or word processing, filing, calculating and use of telephone; See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions.
