Assistant Head Racquets Professional

Job Summary The Assistant Head Racquets Professional at the Pittsburgh Field Club plays an instrumental role in the health of the program. Jointly with the Head Racquets Professional, they are responsible for the health and development of a comprehensive racquets program that exceeds member expectations. This role encompasses both on court instruction and off court duties, such as facility maintenance, member engagement, and event execution. The Assistant Head Racquets Professional will share the responsibility of executing events and programs designed by the Head Racquets Professional and the membership. Additionally, they will communicate their own and member feedback with the Head Racquets Professional regarding clinic requests, event feedback, and program insights. Outside of expected clinic, event, and maintenance hours, it is the duty of the Assistant Head Racquets Professional to manage and grow their own lesson schedule. Additionally, The Assistant Head Racquets Professional is expected to bring a positive and enthusiastic presence to the Pittsburgh Field Club. No two coaches exhibit this characteristic in the same way, but the Assistant Head Professional is counted upon to bring this energy to their lessons, clinics, events, and interactions with the membership. Requirements Job Tasks/Duties Provide clinic instruction for club programming individually and with the help of the Head Racquets Professional Promote and coordinate adult in-house leagues and socials. Communicate with the Head Racquets Professional to publicize club tennis events. Execute special tennis events and tournaments with the help of the Head Racquets Professional Manage individual lesson schedule Answer phones in the Tennis Shop, book courts for clinics / events Assist members with purchasing tennis related apparel, including strings, clothing, and racquets Supervise other tennis staff including Tennis Shop salesperson Manage Tennis Shop in Head Racquet Professional’s absence. Maintain a clean and tidy racquets facility Assists Head Tennis Professional, and completes other appropriate tasks assigned by the Head Tennis Professional. Licenses and Special Requirements Certification with either U.S. Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) or Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) is preferred, Professional Platform Tennis Registry (PPTR), or Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) are bonuses, but not required especially if prior coaching experience is demonstrated. Candidates should be willing to seek certification if none is held. Player ability at least a 4.5 level Physical Demands and Work Environment Ability to adjust hitting level to match a wide range of member needs Sufficient stamina to tolerate hot and humid outdoor weather for several consecutive hours. Continuous standing, walking, running, bending, stooping and repetitive actions. Frequent use of light machinery and hand-held tools. Frequent lifting and moving of objects. Education and Experience College degree preferred but not required Collegiate team experience desirable, preferably with a 4.5 or above rating. Two to three years of competitive playing experience Experience working with both juniors and adults desirable Desirable Experience / Ability to Learn Knowledge of Har-Tru court maintenance High levels of member and guest service – experience at private clubs Platform Tennis and/or Pickleball competition and/or coaching CPR Certification Ability to restring tennis racquets Job Knowledge, Core Competencies, and Expectations Able to relate and develop strong relationships with member Ability to individualize instruction to meet member needs and meet student goals Core role in the maintenance of Har-Tru tennis courts Participate in the organization, promotion, and execution of club sponsored events Energize membership regarding racquets related activities on and off court Strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration with Head Racquets Professional in shaping the development of a racquets program reflective of members’ expectations Knowledge of and ability to perform required roles in emergency situations This position will report directly to the Head Racquets Professional.
