POSITION: Director of Racquet Sports

SUMMARY: The Director of Racquet Sports oversees all aspects of Wintergreen’s nationally ranked racquet sports facility which has achieved global recognition as one of the top twenty-five tennis resorts worldwide, a prestigious accolade awarded by Tennis Resorts Online.
Wintergreen Resort has 16 HarTru tennis courts, 8 pickle ball hard courts, 3 indoor hard courts in a bubble and a Pro Shop. The Director of Racquet Sports will manage and maintain Wintergreen’s Racquet Sports programs, facilities, and staff. This includes relationships with Club Members, GreatBase Tennis Education, Resort Guests, and Associates. The Director will provide exceptional customer service and expert racquet sports coaching to our Club Members and guests. The Director of Racquet Sports reports to the Wintergreen General Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Development and Management
• Design and implement a wide range of programs for players of all ages and skill levels.
• Develop and implement lesson plans, clinics, academies, camps, and special events.
• Work with USTA and local tennis clubs to promote USTA league play and events.
• Coordination and scheduling with Great Base Tennis Education (GBTE) at Wintergreen.
• Monitor the effectiveness of all programs, and adjust offerings based on feedback and participation.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all racquet sports-related inquiries and feedback.
Facility Operations
• Manage all operations at the Devils Knob and Stoney Creek Racquet Sports facilities.
• Ensure the courts, equipment, and facilities are well-maintained, clean and safe.
• Coordinate court scheduling, reservations, and availability for Members, guests and GBTE.
• Manage the Racquet Sports Pro Shop including the procurement of retail inventory.
Staff Leadership
• Recruit, hire, train, and manage tennis professionals, assistants, and support staff.
• Develop weekly staff schedules and manage staff for quality coaching and Member service.
• Conduct weekly staff meetings for coordination, and safety meetings for all staff members.
• Foster a positive team culture with collaboration to promote professional growth.
Member Engagement and Outreach
• Actively engage with Wintergreen Club Members to increase participation.
• Expand, develop, and promote Member activities, events, and social and club tournament play.
• Explore opportunities for Members to play other tennis clubs for competitive enjoyment.
• Develop strategies to attract new Members and retain current Members.
• Lead the Wintergreen Racquet Sports Advisory Committee meetings of Club Members.
Event Management
• Organize tournaments, clinics, academies, exhibitions, leagues, and social tennis events.
• Collaborate with other Wintergreen Resort departments to ensure good execution all events.
• Serve as the on-site leader during major racquet sports activities to ensure Member satisfaction.
Financial Oversight
• Profit & Loss responsibility for the Racquet Sports Department
• Develop and manage the tennis department budget including pricing and staff compensation.
• Monitor revenue and expenses to ensure profitability while maintaining excellent service.
• Identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost savings and successfully implement them.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
• Operations and management of a Resort racquet sports facility with a Membership base.
• Current teaching methods and techniques of racquet sports play.
• Knowledge of Membership based clubs and the ability to adapt to Member needs.
• Operation and maintenance of racquet sports courts.
• GreatBase Tennis Education curriculum and programs.
Skills & Abilities:
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Motivated and self-driven with a strong passion for racquet sports.
• Strong tennis and pickleball coaching techniques and skills.
• Strong communications, and Member and Customer Service abilities.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Budget development and oversight with Profit & Loss responsibility.
• Proficiency in Court Reserve court scheduling software, SMS, and Microsoft Office.
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
• Bachelor’s degree in business, sports management or other relevant major.
• Experience in managing a Resort tennis facility with a Membership core base.
• Experience in organizing and implementing tennis programs, events, and tournaments.
• Minimum of 10 years as a Racquet Sports Director.
• Experience in coaching players of all ages and skill levels.
• Experience in growing racquet sports participation and revenue generation.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S):
• Racquet sports professional certification(s) such as RSPA (USPTA), PTTL and/or GreatBase.
• Valid, unrestricted driver’s license upon hire and kept throughout employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
• Physical demands consist of sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and using arms,
hands, and fingers to manage or feel objects, tools, or controls; and lifting and carrying moderately heavy
objects up to fifty pounds.
• Must have the ability to play and coach racquet sports.
• Must be able to see and hear in the normal range, with or without correction, and communicate verbally
and in written form with great facility and must be able to be understood.
• Must have the stamina to work long hours and willing to work irregular schedules which may include
weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts.
• Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and will be exposed to conditions normally
encountered in these environments.
• Able to travel around Wintergreen Resort as well as off-site.
