Job Title: Director of Racquets Department.
Racquets Reports To: Board of Directors/Tennis and Sports Committees
Status: Full-Time Exempt Position
Salary: Salary commensurate with experience.
SUMMARY:
Our HOA presently has 11 Tennis Courts (10 HydroCourts and 1 Red Clay) as well as 4 Pickleball Courts. The Director will organize, manage and direct all Tennis and Pickleball activities, events, socials, exhibitions, league teams, clinics, camps, junior’s, high performance players and private lessons. The Director will oversee the administration and maintenance staff. The Director will be responsible for overall court maintenance.
Playing Experience:
College and professional tennis playing experience preferred. NTRP/USTA 5.0 level or above Pickleball DUPR 4.0-4.5 level or above.
Background Desired:
Education: College Degree preferred.
Director of Tennis/Racquets for 3 – 5+ years at a 400 plus residential homeowner’s community or a country club.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from committees, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Experience with basic accounting practices as well as working with P & L statements to effectively manage the racquet program.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Excel and Word are desired. Complete the training on the use of the Racquet Sports booking and court management program and then have the skills to utilize this program.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: RSPA or PTR certification at the highest-level for tennis and pickleball.
Flexibility to teach all ages and levels. Junior development experience with future college players RSPA/PTR and Pickleball certification required.
Additional Requirements: Outgoing customer-oriented personality with knowledge and interest in growing a Pickleball program. Detail oriented with ability to multitask. Comfortable with a high activity, high demand program.
Proven track record of successful member satisfaction.
Proven ability to lead, motivate, supervise, and develop employees and/or independent contractors (10+ in high season, inclusive of teaching professionals).
Proven ability to work with and interact well with multiple constituencies (owners, renters, guests, committees, board, and other department heads). Ability to integrate with fitness classes, spa facilities and the restaurant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director shall devote full time effort, and energies to the performance of duties as Director of Racquets (DOR). The Director shall always conduct oneself in all matters in accordance with standards accepted for Racquet Sports Professionals as established by the Racquet Sports Professional Association (RSPA), Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
The Director shall also conduct oneself in accordance with the rules, regulations and bylaws of the Oaks. The Director of Racquets position is comprehensive and must ensure the successful achievement of the mission and objectives of the Oaks.
Responsible for overall operation of the department, including the Tennis, Pickleball, Pro Shop, and staff. The DOR is a highly visible position requiring strong presence, leadership and communication skills with Homeowners, members and staff. The DOR is expected to be the leader of the program by passionately promoting the games of Tennis and Pickleball. These traits must resonate through one’s team.
Responsible for the annual budget process, monthly financial performance, and weekly payroll management. Manage all Racquet Sports day-to-day operations within budgeted guidelines and to the highest standards. Work with the Tennis and Sports Committees to determine the operational and capital budget for the department. Consistent communication and interaction with other departments including Fitness, Spa and Restaurant.
Create programming content, brochures, websites and media to increase visibility of new and current events. Attend Committee, and requested Board meetings.
Responsible for drafting the Tennis and Sports Committee agendas in coordination with the respective Committee Chair.
Create new social and competitive programs in Tennis and Pickleball to increase homeowner participation and satisfaction.
Create a safe, fun, and engaging racquet experience for adults and children. Provide private, group and camp instruction in Tennis and Pickleball.
Lead the Racquet Sports Team by setting a good example in both teaching and top-notch customer service.
Responsible for the management of the Racquet Sports revenue streams including memberships, guest fees, racquet sports programming, pro shop and events.
Other Specific Duties of the Director of Racquets Include: – Have a working knowledge of Clay Court Maintenance. – Conduct regular staff meetings to ensure effective communications. – Work with the Head of Maintenance to ensure that the Racquet Facilities are in pristine condition.
On court teaching of approximately 500 hours annually.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: On a full-time, annual basis, supervision of the pro shop, assistant professionals, teaching staff, and seasonal staff.
Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the racquet sports teams and leagues.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; teaching professionals; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees or teaching professionals; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
