Director of Tennis

CLUB HISTORY: Founded by Carey Salt tycoon Emerson Carey alongside his four sons, and with a course designed by Perry Maxwell, Prairie Dunes Country Club opened in 1937 with 9 original holes. Twenty years later in 1957, Press Maxwell continued his father’s vision and completed the course. Prairie Dunes has since become a destination course for golfers worldwide. From hosting United States Golf Association tournaments, the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf Championship, and having been consistently rated a top course in the US, North America, and worldwide, Prairie Dunes is a must-play course and membership is highly sought-after. In addition to our world-renowned championship golf course, the club has grown to include 3 indoor and 4 outdoor tennis courts and the membership has a desire to grow engagement through tennis and pickleball. BASIC SUMMARY: As a member of the Prairie Dunes Management Team, the Director of Tennis will oversee the total Tennis Program and services offered including the private lessons, camps, clinics, leagues and co-managing tennis/fitness retail and the tennis/fitness reception team. The position will promote all Prairie Dunes offerings and enhance the Club’s culture by creating an exceptional “tennis experience” for all our members and guests. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ● Creates a positive tennis culture that facilitates a high level of member engagement and establishes an always-elevating level of service in the Tennis/Fitness Center. ● Co-manages the tennis/fitness reception team. ● Recruiting, Scheduling, Training & Evaluations ● Creates SOPs for the Tennis Facility and ensures that Club rules are enforced. ● Provides quality tennis instruction through individual lessons, clinics and camps to Club members. ● Develops and maintains both competive and social tennis programming for adults through instructional programs, leagues and other events. ● Develops and maintains a vibrant junior program that fosters a love for tennis in the Club’s youth members, both as a competitive athletic endeavor and a lifetime recreational activity. ● Creating lifelong tennis players is a primary function of this program. ● Developing successful competitive high school tennis players who compete in USTA and KHSAA events is a primary focus for this program. ● Developing relationships with area professionals and coaches to facilitate the success and inclusion of club members in local competitions and teams. ● Creates a quarterly calender and works with the Club’s communications team to promote all activities. ● Continues to develop Pickleball programs to increase participation by club members. ● Recruits and develops quality assistant Tennis Professionals. ● Co-manages tennis/fitness retail ensuring we have a best-in-class store that is properly managed. ● Purchasing, receiving, and maintaining an accurate inventory. ● Creates and impeccable retail experience to support Tennis, Pickleball, and Fitness Programs. ● Adheres to Club Policies, Procedures and embodies the Club’s core values. ● Will be asked to contribute to policy updates to ensure Prairie Dunes remains current and relevant. ● Promotes Prairie Dunes Membership, amenities, services, and Club Staff. ● Engaged in the Club’s budgeting process. ● Maintains a positive image in the community that enhances the image of Prairie Dunes. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS ● Five (5) years coaching tennis ● Five (5) years tennis program management experience ● Must have an entrepreneurial mindset and approach, including a desire to build, run, and take ownership for the results of the tennis program ● Must have basic computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Office ● Must be dependable and have a strong work ethic. ● Must be an excellent communicator. ● Must be a team player and team builder. ● Must be able to maintain confidentiality on all club matters EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS: ● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred ● Must be accredited by USPTA or another respected organization PHYSICAL DEMANDS – ABILITY TO: ● Ability to grasp, lift, carry or transport up to 40 pounds. ● Ability to stand, walk frequently; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. ● Ability to perform the duties of this job while exposed to outside weather conditions. ● Ability to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word accurately, loudly and quickly. Due to the cyclical nature of our industry, Club Employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the Club. Upon employment, all associates are required to fully comply with the Club’s rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of the facilities.
