Director of Tennis

JOB SUMMARY: The Tennis Director is responsible for the successful delivery of all tennis related activities at St Ives Country Club. The Director will be tasked with managing the coaching staff and creating a positive team environment. Creating and managing the tennis department budget will be a major part of the Director’s duties. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide personalized member service in an atmosphere of energy, excitement, and enthusiasm to enhance the lives of Members, guests and staff. • Consistent, Innovative, Enthusiastic, Teamwork, Sense of Urgency • The Director of Tennis is responsible for promoting the game of tennis and all activities associated with tennis. • The Director of Tennis shall hire all tennis-related staff approved by the GM/COO to adequately serve the membership of the Club. • The Director of Tennis shall be responsible for the Tennis Departments Operational Budget. Also, will develop and execute the business plan. • The Director of Tennis shall supervise, direct, and train a staff of employees, including Head Tennis Professional/ Junior Coordinator, Staff Tennis Professional/ Adult Coordinator, Tennis Shop Manager/Administrative Assistant, Tennis Pro Shop Attendants, Independent Tennis Coaches to perform duties to the highest professional standards. • The Director of Tennis shall provide necessary coordination with the Clubs Accounting Department to assure proper billing systems. • To teach the game of tennis to the members of St Ives CC on an exclusive basis, either personally or through the professional coaching staff. All fees for lessons shall be established by the GM/COO and Director of Tennis. • The Director of Tennis at his expense will provide all teaching equipment, tennis balls for coaching. • To organize, promote and conduct all tennis events, tournaments, or other such activities at the club. • The Director of tennis will manage the Tennis Pro Shop on the Clubs premises for the conducting of retail sales to the Clubs Membership. The Director of Tennis will maintain an appropriate inventory level of sufficient variety of merchandise designed to adequately serve the members of the Club. • The management of the Clubs Tennis Program will be the duty of the Director of Tennis under the guidance of the Clubs GM/COO. This includes the hiring, training and supervision of the tennis staff and the preparation of the annual Operating and Capital Budgets of the Tennis Department. • The Director of Tennis is to meet with the Chairman and Committee of the Annual Events Calendar and secure adequate support for various aspects of events. • The Director of Tennis shall ensure all tennis facilities are ready for play. • The Director of Tennis will make certain that the necessary equipment for the maintenance and upkeep of the Club/facility is on hand and properly maintained. • The Director of Tennis is to keep the Tennis Committee informed on the status of the clubs/facility and equipment for the purpose of budgeting for replacement and repair items. • The Director of Tennis and his staff shall coordinate with the club’s facility on the use of other department amenities by participants such as food and beverage. • The Director of Tennis and his staff shall inspect the courts/facilities daily prior to the start of play and ascertain that all necessary maintenance has been performed. The Grounds Department Staff will conduct the maintenance by blowing courts daily along with sidewalks, steps leading to the upper clay courts, patio areas, back and front of Cabana Building and the grooming of the clay courts. At times other projects will be called upon by the individual that cares for the grounds. • The Director of Tennis and his staff should ensure that all areas of the tennis facility are neat and clean. • The Director of Tennis and his staff shall conduct seasonal ALTA/USTA Captains Meetings in the selection of court practice, clinic times and the selection of food and beverage menu provided by the executive Chef. • The Director of Tennis and his staff shall complete the billing charges for food and beverage after each home match. • All other duties as assigned by the GM/COO. WORK ENVIRONMENT: • Must be in physical shape, stand for long hours. • Must be able to lift 50lbs in lifting teaching equipment, hanging of windscreens, grooming clay courts as needed, blowing of tennis courts and sidewalks, patio and front cabana entrance if required. lifting propane canisters and heating towers. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • USPTA or USTPR Elite Professional Certification (Required Yearly Education). • Efficient on Microsoft Office • Proficient on ALTA and USTA Websites • 5.0 to 5.5 NTRP Playing Ability • 5 years of successful coaching tennis experience with adults and juniors. • College degree preferred with collegiate tennis team experience.
