Overview
The Three Village Tennis Club (TVTC), founded in 1959, is a private membership club with seven Har-Tru courts nestled on a wooded, historic site located in the three villages of Stony Brook, Setauket, and Old Field. This vibrant water-side community on the beautiful north shore of Long Island, New York, is home to a university, retailers, restaurants, nationally recognized medical centers, a variety of nature preserves, and an active tennis community. The club maintains a membership of over 400 individuals with a range of abilities from beginners to advanced intermediate players and two women’s teams that participate in a regional tennis league.
Job Description
TVTC is currently looking for a Director of Tennis/Head Tennis Professional to oversee all aspects of the tennis program and to serve as an ambassador for the game of tennis at this seasonal community tennis club. The club maintains an active calendar involving a number of competitive and social events in addition to weekly instructional clinics and open play offerings.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, enthusiastic leader with outstanding social and communication skills who strives to ensure an exceptional experience for members and guests. Strong time management and organizational skills are required as the position involves promoting, organizing and running tournaments and social events, as well as providing group and individual tennis instruction. As Director of Tennis, the candidate will also be responsible for managing hired staff as well as overseeing maintenance of the club’s Har-Tru surfaces.

Customer Service Orientation: Commitment to providing exceptional service. Marketing of the club to prospective new members. Respectful and professional communication and interaction with club members and guests
Attention to Detail: Observant about club or facility issues—whether related to tennis, customer service, or grounds maintenance—to improve the overall member experience
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Duties
-Schedule and teach private and group tennis lessons and clinics. Demonstrate and instruct students on techniques and tactics to improve overall tennis game
-Organize, promote, and execute social events, junior programs, and tournaments
-Hire and supervise assistant tennis professional
Facility and Court Maintenance
-Supervise and coordinate maintenance of Har-Tru court surfaces to ensure good playing conditions. Hire and train daytime staff to maintain courts.
-Monitor court playability and court closures on a daily basis before opening time and during rain periods
-Provide regular updates to the TVTC board about tennis program performance, court conditions, and needed facility upgrades or significant repairs
Leadership and Staff Supervision
-Foster a positive and collaborative working environment among staff
-Enforce club rules and regulations governing the use of the facilities, behavior, and dress code, as set forth by the Board
-Supervise and hire assistant tennis professional and manage pro shop staff
-Provide stringing and other equipment related services
Qualifications:
-Minimum five years experience as a tennis director or comparable role
-Professional Certification by USPTA and/or PTR required
-Knowledge and experience with Har-Tru court maintenance
-Minimum NTRP playing level: strong 4.5 or 5.0
-Proficiency with court reservation software programs (e.g., CourtReserve) beneficial
Working Conditions/Expectations:
-Dates of employment ~May 1 – September 15
-Maintain an active presence at the club and oversee pro shop operations weekdays 8am-5pm and weekends 7:30-11am during Open Play
-Supervise and direct all special calendar events on selected evenings and weekends
-Attend monthly board meetings
Compensation and Benefits:
-Base salary commensurate with experience, lesson revenue, and potential performance bonus
-Dedicated teaching court all weekdays and weekend afternoons
-Potential added revenue streams include stringing and pro shop merchandising
