Junior Development Coach

ob Description – Private Tennis Coach We are looking for an experienced junior tennis coach who desires a unique opportunity to develop several young players from the ground up. Who we are: A homeschooling family in Houston TX, with four children, aged 13, 10, 8 and 5, who are avid tennis players at varying stages of development. Scope of Work: This would be a full-time position where the coach has near complete responsibility for the development of these players. Initially the role will primarily focus on the oldest child, but with time the needs of the other children will grow. We plan to retain the main private coach that works with our children. He is older, very technical and only works with a ball machine. His involvement will ease the burden for this role (which otherwise would be more than a full time job), though coordination, consultation and cooperation is a mandatory part of the role. Specific responsibilities will include: – Daily private lessons. – Semi-private lessons where we bring in other children for the benefit of coached match play and drills with live balls. This will involve helping to source these potential hitting/ sparring partners. – Attending tournaments with the oldest child on weekends, which often require travel around Texas and occasionally other regions of the US. – Occasional attendance at other childrens’ tournaments depending on scheduling. – Video review with the oldest child. – Schedule management for the oldest child, such as recommendations for training blocks and tournaments that we all agree on. – Frequent liaising with and coordination with the current private coach that will stay involved. – Frequent liaising with and coordination with fitness trainer/ physio to ensure that training is aligned with tennis needs. – Oversee and support mental training. – Occasional other transportation and tennis-related support (stringing, etc.). – Travel with the family to second home for several weeks of the summer where housing will be provided. Training here will be limited to daily private sessions. Indicative Schedule Demands: • Weekly hours will vary based on the tournament schedule and the travel required, as those are the biggest drivers in variance. • Weekly lessons, support, consultations and coordination with others, etc. as listed above are likely to be about ~30+ hours a week, Monday-Friday. Tournanment travel on weekends and during the week would be in addition to that. • Our oldest child will be the bulk of the schedule. • Schedule demands will change with time, goals, seasons, etc. Requirements We are looking for an experienced coach who has developed junior players for success at the highest levels, but is also comfortable teaching the fundamentals to young players. Our children have very different personalities and styles of play, but are all very coachable and interested in working hard. This coach must be comfortable adjusting his or her teaching style to fit the diverse needs of the individuals in our family. Our oldest two children are very serious about their goals, and we need a coach who will take them seriously as they do. It is also important this coach is willing to work in a collaborative environment with the coach who will remain involved – this is extremely important to our son and should not be contentious as this coach is kind, low-ego and literally legendary in junior tennis coaching – he continues to send kids to D1 schools and has had several pros. Frequent, direct, fluid communication with us as parents is key. Compensation This will be a contracted position as a 1099, with competitive compensation depending on the arrangements, so earnings will not be impacted by weather or illness/injury. Additional benefits include: – Potential opportunity to join our club as a contractor if there is a desire to earn additional income teaching lessons after the needs of our family have been filled – Payment of all costs associated with tournament travel – Payment of any costs associated with court access – Highly subsidized access (through free housing) to desirable mountain vacation destination during peak summer season – Paid vacation
