Tennis/Racket Head Professional

REPORTS TO: TENNIS/RACKET CENTER MANAGER GIVES DIRECTION TO: ASSISTANT TENNIS/RACKET PROFESSIONALS FLSA STATUS: Exempt (not eligible for overtime) NATURE OF WORK The Tennis/Racket Head Professional is responsible for the creation and direction of a diverse and successful racket sports instructional, social and competitive program for all ages and abilities. This position actively participates as an instructor and assists the Tennis/Racket Center Manager with the management of the Tennis/Racket Center. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment under the supervision of the Tennis/Racket Center Manager. The position is a year round full time position requiring the ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and evenings as necessary. For information on Mt. Racket Center
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assists the Tennis/Racket Center Manager in all functions of the Mt. Lebanon Tennis/Racket Center and serve as the manager in his or her absence. Develops and promotes tennis, paddle, and pickleball junior and adult clinics, private lessons, adult, junior and senior programs. Actively participate as an instructor in various activities. Schedule, administer and promote leagues, round robins, drop-in, ladders, tournaments, and all other events as applicable. Host and act as tournament director for a minimum of three USTA tournaments per year. Plan and oversee an adult and junior racket sports calendar of events each year in consultation with the Tennis/Racket Center Manager. Schedule, train and supervises assistant professionals for all racket sports programming and events. Plan and oversee year-round junior development instructional and high-performance programs. Assist players with all racket sports needs and ensure policies are being followed. Operate courts in a professional manner and ensure that the environment is safe for all those who use the facility. Maximize the facility’s racket sports to reduce attrition and attract new members. Assist Tennis/Racket Center Manager with the annual budget and fee schedule. Assist fellow employees and guests to ensure excellent customer service. Notify Tennis/Racket Center Manager of player complaints at the time they occur. Rectify any complaints as soon as possible. Act as the facility’s Racket Sports Ambassador to enhance the operation and image of the Mt. Lebanon Tennis/Racket Center. Interact with players and staff professionally and respond to all requests in a timely manner. Represent Mt. Lebanon Tennis/Racket Center in local and national professional organizations. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Assists with recreation department activities and special events as needed. Performs all other work assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Minimum of 3 years as a Tennis Professional. High School Diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. USPTA or PTR certification required. USPTA Pro 1 certification preferred. Strong Collegiate playing background, current NTRP level 5.0 or higher. Pickleball PPA certification or working towards obtaining certification. SafePlay certification required. Training in tennis, pickleball, and platform tennis instruction required. Knowledge of clay court construction, maintenance, and operation preferred. Strong supervisory, management, organizational and communication skills. Demonstrated customer service orientation. Clear understanding of tennis and racket sports and related programming. Clear understanding of personnel management. Knowledge of common computer programs and office machines, including Microsoft 365 and athletic scheduling software. (Peak SportsMan software system). Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop; use hands to handle, or feel equipment and supplies. The employee will need to be able to walk, sit or stand for long periods of time, including walking the premises of the Mt. Lebanon Tennis/Racket Center. The employee is required to sit at times at a desk and operate office equipment. The employee must regularly lift tables, chairs, tents or other objects and move up to 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions. Requires normal range of hearing, eyesight, and verbal communications to supervise, record, prepare and communicate appropriate activities. The essential job functions are required to be performed in person at the Tennis/Racket Center, including in person interaction with Tennis/Racket Center patrons and employees.
